In the Spring of 1990, Arun District Council gave the people of Aldwick the opportunity of having a say in what should happen to ‘The Pound’ and the land to the North of it. As a result, our society was formed under Arun’s ‘Pocket Park Scheme’, with the help of the Sussex Wildlife Trust and the TCV.
In 1995 Aldwick Green was registered as a Village Green. Our first work parties, which were spent clearing the undergrowth and rubbish away from what is now the conservation area, were such fun, along with hard work, that it became obvious that here was a good way of promoting community spirit. Since then our work parties have laid paths, planted trees, hedges and wild flowers including daffodils, bluebells, crocus and aconites. We have also created a snowdrop walk & wildflower meadow.
